The burden of knowledge in this game is, and always has been atrocious. This game has in excess of 50 maps the player is suppose to memorize information, that could easily just be displayed in a better loading screen.

Players should not be forced to memorize, on 50+ maps...

is there a trade route, if so where does it spawn
about where does the enemy player spawn
are there fish and whales in the water, if so, how many/can it support a water boom

This information should be on a simple example map on the loading screen. I'm not sure why it is that AoE2 can do this, and its sequel some how can not., but its absurd. Frankly, I think the reason RTS like AoE have trouble staying in the long game is because its so hard for new players to get into the game and not be overwhelmed or stomped down by players who have been playing long enough to be able to just rattle off everything about anything. We already are expected to know the pro's and con's of each civ, know their possible strategies, avg timers, and so much more. Why is this game so determined to make everything a matter of experience instead of just helping its players?

Who was "Duc Aury"?

So I find it really nice how they gave the explorers default names of actual historical personalities and so far I could find them all but my french explorer is called "Duc Aury", does anyone know whether this one is simply made up?
